RON
Also called: Remote Online Notarization, remote notarization
A notarial act performed for a remotely located signer using audio-video communication, identity-proofing technology (KBA + credential analysis), and a tamper-evident electronic document. Authorized in Pennsylvania under 57 Pa.C.S. § 306.1 and governed by 4 Pa. Code Chapter 167.
RON requires PA-specific approval: the notary must be commissioned in PA and authorized by the DOS to perform RON, using one of the 34 DOS-approved RON platforms. Notably, Pavaso closed on January 1, 2026 — even though it still appears on DOS’s approved list, it is no longer operational.
